Ohio medical marijuana sales are climbing slowly month over month

With patient rolls slowly ticking up and state regulators revamping calculations for the 90-day supply purchase limits in April, average weekly sales of medical marijuana in Ohio are trending up.
The Ohio marijuana industry is still operating short of its potential, though. While 51 of 57 provisionally licensed dispensaries have opened, just 20 of 33 provisionally licensed cultivators and 19 of 45 processors are in operation today. Registered patients numbered more than 109,000 coming into June — per the latest state figures — but that’s still quite shy of the 200,000 cannabis industry stakeholders are projecting for the state.
Nonetheless, a promising trend for Ohio marijuana businesses is the slow but steady growth in retail sales.
According to the latest state figures, monthly medical marijuana sales in June topped $17.1 million in June and about $17.5 million in May.
The week ending May 25 appears to be the busiest week yet for the program with $4.8 million in sales. There was about $4 million in weekly sales on average that month.
Average weekly sales in June inched up to about $4.2 million. Average weekly sales in March and April were between $3.2 million and $3.6 million. In those months, the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program surpassed all sales in 2019, the first year of retail sales. [Read more at Crain’s Cleveland]
