Massachusetts marijuana regulators to investigate attacks on retailers

The Cannabis Control Commission plans to review the security protocols of the three marijuana dispensaries that were broken into this week. Regulators said they would also analyze security requirements for the industry as a whole.

Grove Hall-based Pure Oasis, Allston-based Mayflower Medicinals, and Patriot Care’s medical marijuana dispensary in the city’s Financial District were all targeted by “incidents” after peaceful protests gave way to violent clashes with police and looting on Sunday night, according to the commission.

Commissioners met in executive session to discuss the attacks after their Thursday meeting, and said afterward that the state agency was reviewing what had occurred and investigative steps for the future, what inventory may have been taken from the stores, and the current security of the stores given that they reopened for business.

“There are a lot of businesses that were broken into. It wasn’t just these three. It’s like any crime, you want to understand how it was done and perpetrated,” said Steven Hoffman, commission chairman. “We’re confident we have strong regulations and that they are adequate but we will learn and see if they need to be adhered to or anything can be learned.” [Read more at Boston Business Journal]
