The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning the company of former NFL player Kyle Turley to stop claiming that CBD is an effective treatment for coronavirus.
In a letter dated Tuesday, the FDA ordered Turley’s company, Las Vegas-based NeuroXPF, to stop “misleadingly representing your products as safe and effective for a COVID-19-related use …”
The letter goes on to say Turley’s company has 48 hours to show the FDA that it has complied, or the federal agency will take legal action to seize his products and force him to stop.
Turley, a former offensive tackle, has been promoting his product on social media with slogans such as “Crush Corona” and encouraging consumers to “boost” their immune systems by taking CBD softgel caps.
The FDA wrote in the letter to Turley that it “is taking urgent measures to protect consumers from certain products that, without approval or authorization by FDA, claim to mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose or cure COVID-19 in people.”
During his eight seasons in the NFL, Turley played for the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs. He retired in December 2007.
A Hemp Industry Daily email sent to Turley’s company Wednesday asking for comment was not immediately returned.
