High Times, the most recognized name in cannabis, announced today that Oregon has been added to the lineup of the Cannabis Cup: People’s Choice Edition competition series. The events began earlier this year as a way to continue the classic High Times Cannabis Cup competitions in a modified format suitable for a community still in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Cannabis Cup Oregon: People’s Choice Edition aims to identify and award Oregon’s best cannabis products across a wide range of different categories. The event will be the first-ever competition that is open to the Oregon public and is expected to see the largest pool of judges in the state’s history. High Times will produce the contest in partnership with premier Oregon cannabis brand TJ’s by Stem Holdings.
TJ’s is known for its award-winning, proprietary cannabis genetics, including TJ’s Durban Poison strain, named High Times’ “Best Tasting Bud” two years in a row. TJ’s utilizes a regenerative and sustainable cultivation process that allows the grower to cultivate premium cannabis on a commercial production level for recreational, medical, and extraction applications.
The Cannabis Cup Oregon: People’s Choice Edition will feature products from 8 different categories, including indica, sativa, hybrid, and sun-grown flower, pre-rolls, concentrates & extracts, vape pens & cartridges, and edibles. Half a pound of cannabis flower, a quarter pound of concentrates, or 60 units of edibles are required for each entry. Entry fees are $500 for one entry, $250 per entry for two entries, and High Times will waive all entry fees for three or more entries. The competition is for both recreational and medicinal products, which must all be produced in Oregon by a facility licensed by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.
Entry intake for the Cannabis Cup Oregon: People’s Choice Edition will take place in Eugene October 5 through 8. Judging kits will be available to adults 21 and older from October 15 through November 18, which is also the timeframe for judges to submit their feedback. The winners will be recognized during an online awards show slated to be held on Sunday, November 22.
Cannabis Cups Go Virtual
High Times announced in March that it was taking its series of Cannabis Cups online in response to the growing coronavirus outbreak. With restrictions on large gatherings in place across the country, the People’s Choice Edition series of Cannabis Cup competitions give High Times an avenue to maintain the tradition of identifying the best cannabis products being produced.
The inaugural High Times Hemp Cup, which had been scheduled to take place as a traditional in-person event in Austin, Texas, was instead held online on April 4, recognizing results in eight categories. The High Times Cannabis Cup Oklahoma: People’s Choice Edition began judging in May and results were announced at an online awards show on June 27.
Competitions currently in progress include the Cannabis Cup Colorado: People’s Choice Edition. Judging kits are available now, with results slated to be announced on August 2. And earlier this month, High Times announced that entries for the Cannabis Cup Illinois: People’s Choice Edition will be accepted beginning August 17, with judging kits available starting on August 25 and winners revealed at an online ceremony to be held on Saturday, September 26.
