When people say “everything’s bigger in Texas,” they’re probably not thinking of festive gingerbread houses. However, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, one Texas company earns credit for building the largest gingerbread house.
In 2013, the Texas A&M Traditions Club built a staggeringly sweet gingerbread house that measured 60’ x 42’ x 10’. In terms of area, this house was just under 40,000 ft2, and in terms of calories…well, maybe we’d better not share that stat. After all, calories don’t count during the holidays!
The best thing about this gingerbread project is that it was made for a charitable cause. Not only did this house inspire everyone who visited it, but the team behind it donated their proceeds to a local hospital. Now that’s the true holiday spirit!

The Swedes may not have invented gingerbread cookies, but they sure have a lot of superstitions surrounding this dessert. For instance, did you know you could make a wish with a gingerbread cookie? Indeed, according to Swedish legend, you could hold a gingerbread in your hands and silently ask for something you desire.
However, there is a significant stipulation to using this wish-making method. After you tell your gingerbread your request, you have to break it apart with one hand. How the “cookie crumbles” determines whether you’ll get your wish. Specifically, it has to break into three pieces for your desire to manifest.
While we’re on the subject of Swedish superstitions, some records suggest the Swedish King Hans used gingerbread cookies to combat melancholy. However, considering how cheery most people feel after eating gingerbread cookies, that’s not such a shocking superstition!
