Vertically integrated multistate cannabis company Planet 13, most commonly known for its SuperStore dispensary model, is on track to open a retail location this year in Illinois.
The company holds licenses in Las Vegas and California, and most recently expanded to Florida to build out “neighborhood model” stores, which have a smaller footprint and are catered exclusively to medical cannabis patients, whereas the SuperStore model is larger in square footage and more tailored to an adult-use consumer.

Now, the company is expanding operations into the Midwest, as it holds a dispensary license in Waukegan, Ill., a suburb located approximately 45 miles north of Chicago off Interstate 94, and is near a recently announced casino project, according to a recent press release.
“One, location is everything. We couldn’t have a better spot than our dispensary next to an approved casino project and off the major interstate between Milwaukee and Chicago,” said Bob Groesbeck, co-CEO of Planet 13. “Two, a disciplined and patient approach to finding attractively priced opportunities and cash management. And three, creating one-of-a-kind retail destinations designed to thrill our customers.”
