Niagara County, N.Y. (WKBW) – Niagara County Board of Health is now supporting the New York State Association of County Health Officials position on opposing the legalization of recreational marijuana .
The Niagara County Board of Health voted at the September 27th meeting to support the New York State Association of County Health Officials (NYSACHO) position on legalization of recreational marijuana.
The NYSACHO, which represents the 58 local health departments, has serious concerns about New York State’s intention to propose legislation that would legalize regulated marijuana. The Niagara County Board of Health supports the united opinion of the American Medical Association, Medical Society of the State of New York and NYSACHO that legalization of regulated marijuana could lead to dangerous public health outcomes.
“The Niagara County Board of Health is committed to protecting population health and safeguarding our community,” stated Public Health Director, Daniel J. Stapleton. “I applaud the Board of Health for taking this position as it demonstrates our collective efforts to defend against well documented adverse health effects of marijuana,” he added.
The community is encouraged to review the NYSACHO position statement, which fully outlines the adverse health effects of marijuana.
