The 70s was a wacky decade for desserts. After all, this was the era that saw a resurgence in the “Wacky Cake!” Anyone fortunate enough to be in the US Virgin Islands during the 70s may have tasted one of the decade’s best dessert beverages: the Bushwacker. With its mouthwatering blend of chocolate, coffee, and cream, is it any surprise this drink soon became a staple on sun-drenched beaches?

On its own, the Bushwacker should put you in a “St. Thomas state of mind.” However, a touch of Tribe CBD oil never hurts!

CBD Bushwacker Recipe

Tribe’s Delightful CBD Bushwacker

Unlike most classic cocktails, we know plenty of details surrounding the Bushwacker’s creation. As hinted in the intro, this cocktail first emerged in the US Virgin Islands in a St. Thomas bar called Sapphire Pub. Interestingly, the name “Bushwacker” refers to a furry friend who frequented this beachside destination.

Immediately after this drink appeared, other bars in the area started making their own Bushwacker renditions. Despite this drink’s St. Thomas origins, the Bushwacker has become a big deal on Florida’s bar scene. For instance, there’s now an annual Bushwacker Festival in Pensacola Beach. Also, Florida was the first US state to create a line of pre-mixed Bushwacker products.

In case you were wondering, Sapphire Beach Bar is open for business…and we’re sure they serve plenty of Bushwackers every day!

Ingredients

• 1 oz rum
• 1 oz Kahlúa
• 1 oz crème de cacao
• 2 oz cream of coconut
• 2 oz milk
• 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
• ~ 2 cups of ice
• Whipped cream, optional

Directions

• Pour ice, rum, Kahlúa, crème de cacao, cream of coconut, and milk into a blender

• Blitz for a few seconds until smooth

• Pour into a pre-chilled serving glass

• Top with whipped cream and Tribe CBD oil

Let’s be honest: we’re not counting calories when we’re sipping a Bushwacker. If you’re planning on savoring this beach cocktail, why not make it count with extra toppings? For extra deliciousness, many people add a drizzle of decadent chocolate syrup and a Maraschino cherry.

For those who want “healthy-ish” garnishes, consider preparing a few dark chocolate shavings beforehand and sprinkling them on top. As strange as it may sound, 70 percent dark chocolate is a legit superfood! Find out more about the wonders of dark chocolate on our CBD chocolate martini recipe.

Lastly, if you want to give your Bushwacker some serious crunch, why not add some almond shavings or walnuts to your drink. Both of these nuts are full of healthful nutrients and minerals, especially omega-3 fatty acids

“Ice Cream” For Your Achy Knees! — Give Tribe’s CBD Topical A Try

While drinking a Bushwacker should cool you down, it isn’t the best remedy for achy joints. When your muscles are screaming after an intense workout, you should spread some of our CBD Cold Therapy cream for localized relief. Believe it or not, scientists say we have cannabinoid receptors all along our skin. This means CBD topicals may provide targeted relief for common complaints like joint pain, neck strain, and backaches.

Cannabis and chocolate have a long history together. While “pot brownies” are perhaps the original cannabis edible, professional chefs and food scientists have refined the process of infusing cannabinoids and chocolates to create unique innovations. Investors may want to take a closer look at companies that are combining high-end chocolates with craft cannabis given the potential for highly-differentiated, high-margin products.

Grown Rogue International Inc. (CSE: GRIN) is a vertically-integrated, multi-state cannabis brand that specializes in developing “seed-to-experience products”. As part of building this “experience” for consumers, the company partnered with a world renowned chocolatier to feature THC and CBD infused edible products that are already available in select stores.

In this article, we will take a closer look at why chocolate and cannabis go together so well and how Grown Rogue aims to introduce top-tier products into the market.

An Ideal Pairing

Many chefs and scientists regard cannabis and chocolate as an ideal pairing. In addition to masking the harsh flavors, chocolate contains a chemical called anandamide that is nearly identical to tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. Anandamide affects appetite, mood, and the perception of pain, while producing a very mild high. The combination of THC and anandamide could help cannabinoids stay in the system longer.

When it comes to craft products, the process of making chocolate is just as nuanced as the process of growing cannabis. The process of choosing and roasting cocoa beans is just as nuanced as the process of selecting and roasting coffee beans. There are significant differences between cocoa growing regions, producing taste profiles that range from bitter and earthy to sweet and citrusy—and everything in between.

Many consumers of high-quality craft cannabis are also connoisseurs of other craft products—including chocolate. The combination of high-quality chocolate and high-quality cannabis can produce edible products that are unparalleled in the cannabis edibles space. Chocolates also command a significant premium compared to many other confectionery products, creating an opportunity for greater profit margins.

Partnering with a Leader

Grown Rogue recently announced a partnership with world renowned chocolatier, Jeff Shepherd, who was voted one of North America’s Top 10 Chocolatiers by Pastry Arts and Designs. Under the terms of the partnership, the two will create THC and CBD infused chocolate products under the GRAM and Grown Rogue brand names, which are both wholly-owned by Grown Rogue International Inc.

“In carefully analyzing our edible line, we wanted to find an expert that not only shared our values but shared our vision for the right experience for customers,” said Grown Rogue Co-Founder and CEO Obie Strickler. “Jeff and his team have been pillars of the community and create delicious products as well as delightful experiences so we were excited to know Jeff felt the same ways towards our team.”

Mr. Shepherd’s business is based just three miles from Grown Rogue’s indoor cultivation center and produces chocolate bars, truffles, and caramels that have become favorites for chocolate connoisseurs worldwide. The first product created by the partnership will be marketed under the GRAM brand and consist of a dark chocolate bar containing 50mg of THC or CBD that’s carefully mixed to ensure the dominant flavor remains the chocolate.

Looking Ahead

Grown Rogue International Inc. (CSE: GRIN) represents a compelling investment opportunity in the cannabis edibles space. By partnering with a world renowned chocolatier, the company is launching innovative new products that leverage the unique chemistry shared by cannabis and chocolate—even on a chemical level. The move also comes as the company continues its expansion into California, Nevada, and potentially other states.
