Province Brands of Canada — the Canadian company developing the world’s first beers brewed from the cannabis plant — today announced an agreement with Lost Craft Beer, one of Ontario’s fastest growing and award-winning craft beer companies.

The agreement will allow Lost Craft Beer to license Province Brands of Canada’s patent-pending technologies (developed by Province Brands of Canada to mash and ferment cannabis and enable the creation of the world’s first beers brewed from cannabis instead of barley) and brew beers in Province Brand’s 123,000 square foot facility in Grimsby, Ontario (currently under construction). This process will start once the manufacture and sale of such products are legalized in Canada.

Under the agreement Lost Craft and Province Brands will collaborate to launch non-alcoholic beer brewed from cannabis, which will intoxicate using marijuana instead of alcohol. The beer will be sold wherever cannabis can be legally sold in Canada under the Cannabis Act once such sales are legal. All beer brewed under this agreement will be marketed under the Lost Craft brand name.

“Lost Craft is proud to partner with Province to develop approachable non-alcoholic cannabis-brewed craft beer. We chose to work with Province as a result of their significant expertise and are looking forward to expanding the breadth of our beer portfolio with products at the forefront of brewing innovation,” said Shehan De Silva, Founder of Lost Craft Beer.

Over the past two years, Province Brands of Canada has developed a patent-pending process for brewing a premium beer from the cannabis plant. The first steps in the brewing process, milling and “mashing” (i.e. saccharifying or extracting fermentable sugars from the cannabis plant) requires specialized equipment and technology, which would not be found in a normal brewery.

Lost Craft will work closely with Province Brands’ master brewer, Rob Kevwitch to develop non-alcoholic cannabis-brewed craft beers. Since the beer is brewed from cannabis, rather than barley, it will be naturally gluten-free and low in calories and sugar. The products that are developed will be consistent with Lost Craft’s brewing style which emphasizes approachability and balance.

“This is a dream come true,” said Dooma Wendschuh, CEO and Co-Founder of Province Brands. “I’ve loved Lost Craft beer for quite some time and it’s an honour and a privilege to work with a company whose values and dedication to quality and craftsmanship so closely mirrors ours at Province. I really can’t wait to taste the beer we come up with together. We look to form more of these partnerships as the market for cannabis-powered beer expands.”

About Province Brands of Canada

Province Brands of Canada is an early stage, highly disruptive premium adult beverage company founded by veteran entrepreneurs with extensive experience in the premium alcohol and legal medical and recreational cannabis industries. Province Brands’ patent-pending process has created the world’s first beers brewed from cannabis while utilizing parts of the cannabis plant which would otherwise have no commercial value. Alcohol-free yet intoxicating, and with a dose-response curve similar to that of alcohol, Province Brands’ cannabis-powered beers will challenge the alcohol industry by offering a safer and healthier alternative that is also gluten-free and low in calories and sugar. Recently, Province Brands of Canada announced they are expanding their planned product portfolio beyond alcohol-free beers with the pending launch of Cambridge Bay Imperial Pilsner, a first-of-its-kind, 7% ABV imperial pilsner brewed from hemp in place of barley which can be sold anywhere alcohol is legally sold. Cambridge Bay Imperial Pilsner will be launched first in the Yukon in early 2019 with plans to be sold throughout Canada soon.
