Ohio’s medical marijuana Patient and Caregiver Registry went live Monday, as state officials anticipate product will soon be for sale in dispensaries.
The registry is for physicians who have state approval to recommend medical marijuana for patients with any of 21 qualifying ailments, such as cancer, Multiple sclerosis or post-traumatic stress disorder.
Physicians enter patient or caregiver information into the registry. Then the registry sends an email to the patient or caregiver, prompting them to log in, complete their profile and pay for a medical marijuana e-card.
The cost of an annual registration is $50 for patients and $25 for caregivers, although veterans and low-income people may be eligible for fee reductions.
Patients, except for those seeking a fee reduction, will immediately receive a medical marijuana e-card once they’ve completed the information online. The card will allow them to purchase product at dispensaries.
“The patient card will happen as soon as the payment is made,” said Tessie Pollock, spokeswoman for the Ohio State Medical Board, which maintains the registry. [Read more at Cleveland.com]
