The first day of recreational marijuana sales in Michigan, originally slated to commence Dec. 1, could be delayed a day or two, Marijuana Regulatory Agency Director Andrew Brisbo revealed during an industry summit in Metro Detroit Thursday, Nov. 21.

The first question posed to him during a marijuana industry panel: “Mr. Brisbo, what happens on Dec. 1?”

“That’s a Sunday, by the way,” added Detroit newsman Charlie Langston, who acted as the master of ceremonies during the segment at the $300-per-ticket, second annual Michigan Cannabis Industry Summit in Birmingham.

“It is,” Brisbo replied. “We should have looked at a calendar before we put that out … We should have looked and saw that Dec. 1 fell on a Sunday, so I don’t think it will happen on the first, I think it will be on the second now.”

On Nov. 13, the state surprised many when it announced newly licensed recreational marijuana businesses, which are required to already be licensed under the state’s medical marijuana program, would be allowed to transfer inventory to the retail side for sale on Dec. 1.

Prior to that, expectations were that the market would need to wait at least one grow cycle, until March or April, before marijuana flower and products would be ready for store shelves. [Read more at MLive.com]
