Michigan Lawmakers Further Delay Marijuana Transport Bill

Michigan lawmakers have delayed a promising bill that would overturn a law that declares the possession or transportation of marijuana in a vehicle a misdemeanor.
According to the Kansas City Star, the Michigan Senate voted against the House-backed bill on Feb. 27, 2018, resulting in a 19-16 defeat.
The current transport law states that the only way marijuana can rightfully be in vehicle is if it is packed in a case that is placed in the trunk or any other compartment that is not “readily accessible.”
Medical marijuana patients that are in compliance with the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act are safe from the transport law thanks to a 2016 ruling by the Michigan Court of Appeals.
Keeping this ruling in mind, lawmakers in favor of the bill to annul the transport law claim that the law should be repealed as the state already prohibits the possession of marijuana in any circumstance without a medical marijuana card.
