Agribusiness giant Syngenta adds hemp to its lobbying efforts

Another Big Agriculture company has acknowledged engaging in lobbying activity on behalf of industrial hemp.
Syngenta AG, a major player in global agriculture with agronomic interests from plant breeding to crop protection, said it is monitoring industrial hemp regulations.
Company officials say they are especially interested in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency granting registrations for pesticides that can be used on industrial hemp.
Cannabis Wire first reported Syngenta’s lobbying activity.
Based in Basel, Switzerland, Syngenta joins other Big Ag firms with interests in hemp and cannabis.
Archer Daniels Midland, a global food and agriculture company headquartered in Chicago, started lobbying on behalf of hemp interests in 2019.
Helena Agri-Enterprises, an agriculture crop protection company based in Collierville, Tennessee, has been actively lobbying on hemp and cannabis regulation issues since 2018.
